Texel
Breathtaking natural beauty
The Texel countryside is amazing. Dunes, woodland, heathland, polders, beaches, mudflats, hills – you name it. The dune area is unique, and is therefore a designated National Park, with the immense De Hors sandbank and De Slufter dune slack where the North Sea flows in and many salt-loving plants flourish. There are so many migratory birds here that Texel has one the largest varieties of bird species in the world. The earthen walls are typical of Texel, and these traditional land dividers are home to many protected species of plants and animals. The countless sheep are just as striking, and the island teems with lambs in spring.
